Budilovsky Literary Endowed Scholarship

This application is for Fall 2025.

The Budilovsky Literary Endowed Scholarship encourages aspiring writers by assisting with tuition, books, and fees, generously funded by the John and Leona Budilovsky Trust. This $1000.00 scholarship is awarded each semester and is open to College of DuPage students from all majors. Applicants must submit an autobiographical essay of 250 words or less.

Criteria:
1. Scholarships distributed from this fund may only be awarded to College of DuPage students.
2. Applicants must submit their own feature story (autobiographical preferred) see below for essay examples.

Here are some suggestions for possible areas in your life to explore within this essay:

1. Significant Experience:

You could reflect on a pivotal moment in your life – something that shaped your values, passions, or aspirations. It could be a family event, a moment of personal growth, or a transformative experience that influenced your decision to pursue higher education. Be sure to highlight the lessons you learned and how it has prepared you for your college journey.

2. Adventures That Motivated You:
If there are any life-changing experiences, such as travel, a unique job, or a volunteer opportunity, consider how they ignited your desire to further your education. This could be an adventure that broadened your perspective or led you to recognize the importance of pursuing a degree.

3. Overcoming Adversity:
Sharing a personal challenge you have faced, whether related to family, health, finances, or any other difficulty, and detailing how you managed to overcome it could make a powerful narrative. Focus on your resilience, determination, and what the experience taught you about yourself.

4. Shifting Your Perception:
Perhaps there was an event or realization that changed how you see the world. This could involve encountering a new culture, being exposed to a different viewpoint, or facing a situation that required you to rethink your beliefs or attitudes.

Remember to keep the essay concise and reflective, while making sure it highlights your personal growth and why you are deserving of this scholarship. These questions above are not exclusive. You are also open to writing about other aspects of your personal journey in applying for this scholarship.
